ATF(Accelerator Test Facility) is a test accelerator focused on generating the super low-emittance beam, that is one of the essential technique to realize the next electron-positron linear collider (GLC, Global Linear Collider). The purpose of GLC is particle search and precise determination of its property in high energy region beyond 250 GeV to understand the structure of the universe.

Introduction of ATF
The object of the next generation electron-positron linear collider (Global Linear Collider, GLC) is the elementary particle search and the precise measurement of its property in the energy region up to five times of where the past electron-positron colliders, LEP(CERN) and SLC(SLAC) reached. To accelerate electron and positron up to such high energy region effectively, 26 km linear accelerators (13km for electron, 13km for positron) are used. In the colliding point, the very small electron and positron beams (240 nm in horizontal, 3 nm in vertical) have to be well controlled. To focus the beam down to the very low size, a high-precision, high-gradient final focus magnet and a low divergence super low emittance beam are necessarily. The generation and collision of the beams is cycled in 150 Hz. To keep the collision stable, the position stability of the beams must within few nm. The purposes of ATF are developing the super low emittance beam and the control technique, key issues of GLC. As a fruit of ATF progress, the nm beam generation and nm beam control turn into reality.
