(ABSTRACT)
I will discuss the paper arXiv:1005.5735[hep-th] where we systematically construct global Calabi-Yau fourfold geometries for F-theory and realize SO(10) GUT models. After an overview over the recent developments in model building with F-theory I will explain some details of the construction of global SO(10) models. The construction uses two powerful mathematical techniques: toric geometry and spectral covers. These will be explained in the talk.
