    ABSTRACT
Recent experimental data on B -> pi pi and B -> pi K
decays poses a challenge for theory because the pattern
of branching ratios of the various decay channels does
not agree with theoretical expectations.
We show how the "B -> pi pi puzzle" can be accomodated
in the Standard model through hadronic interference effects
and extract the relevant parameters from experiment,
enabling us to predict yet unmeasured CP asymmetries.
We then argue that New Physics effects are necessary to
solve the "B -> pi K puzzle" and present a scenario
that reproduces implications on rare decays.
